Maryland is so full of history! Mr. Joel suggested we do Genealogy Merit Badge in Maryland and I am so glad he did.
We met with Kris at the Rising Sun Inn. It was a really cool old home that is being preserved. http://www.risingsuninn.org/
We had the chance to tour the house and hear what had happened over time. I think it is interesting that George Washington may have stopped there when it was a tavern but we will never know! I was also very interested in the ghosts Randall and Abigail. I am most interested in Abigail – I wish she had reached out to us to let us know she was there. They don’t understand why she is there but there must be a story!
I enjoyed learning about my family in the merit badge. My mom is an only child but my dad has ten siblings. It was interesting to learn more about my aunts and uncle. The paperwork part was a bit confusing but the stories were much more interesting. It was weird to hear about my parents as kids and how different it was for them.
I have two brothers, a sister and two sisters in law. They are all older than me so I am interested in learning about how things were different for them.
I enjoyed the interview. I chose to interview my Sister in Law. I asked her a lot of weird questions but I know her much better now.
The best part about this merit badge was learning about my family history. The badge helped me to find out things I would have never know about before. Like we have an entire Witgen family book... I may have to check that out!!
I would highly recommend a visit to the Rising Sun Inn. I would also encourage troops to help out with the renovations if you can! And if Abigail should reach out, tell her hello for me!
