The trip to Cali was a complete surprise! We found out that school was going to be online instead of in person so my parents said I could do that from my bother’s as well as at home.
My bother is a Marine and I don’t get to see him enough. I also have a niece (who is the cutest person on the planet) and a sister in law (who is the best cook on the planet) that I was able to visit. So I was able to fly out and spend a week with them.
My brother will be finishing his service soon so this will be my last trip to Cali for a while. I went earlier in the year planning to earn my Aviation Merit Badge but Covid happened and the class was cancelled. It was OK because I earned my aviation badge with COL Murphy at home. It did leave me without a California badge though.
I was able to earn Traffic Safety with Ms. Linda. I learned a lot about the safety features on a car – especially braking and how far it takes to stop. I was able to work with my brother for the very first time on a scout badge. He taught me about tire pressure and checking tire tread. He taught me many things about not only traffic safety but about cars. It was fun to spend time with just him.
I had some things I needed to send Ms. Linda when I got home. I needed to talk with members of my troop that drive about how to be safer. Teens make many mistakes because they lack experience or get distracted. There are a lot of websites available to help teens learn to be better drives before they are on the road.
I think this will be a very useful when I begin to drive.
